Dear Praying Friends, June 23, 2010
As always, time is moving ever so quickly. The weather has been hot. The heat index is often near 120 degrees. But rainy season is right around the corner and the weather has started to change. It's a little harder to get things done when it's raining so often, but it is a pleasant break from the hotter weather.
School has started, the work for the Bible distribution ministry continues, and the 6 year anniversary is fast approaching. Here is a brief summary of some of the things happening on our side of the world.
*Incredible Story! The police were called to a bridge in Mapandan (near our second ministry) where a young lady was attempting to hang herself. The police arrived just as she lowered herself and let go. They were able to rescue her and take her to the hospital.
The next day a soul winner from our church knocked on her door. The family took the soul winner to the girl who was recovering at home. The soul winner told the young lady how much Jesus loves her. After some time, the young lady received Jesus as her personal Saviour. God is good.
Later that evening, she attended the Bible study at Mapandan. Her neck bore the fresh rope-like bums. Her face was bruised and swollen. And her eyes were filled with tears when the soul winner brought her to me. She said, "If I died yesterday, when I tried to kill myself, I would have went to hell." Her name is Jovelyn Nato. It's a joy to see her holding a songbook and singing the hymns of the faith. She is coming faithfully, but still deals with the depression caused from severe poverty. Please pray for her.
* Harvest Time Bible Distribution Please continue to pray for Harvest Time Bible Distribution. We are presently organizing this ministry that can get the gospel into the public schools. Every Bible or Testament delivered will be given along with the plan of salvation. I will soon start working on the funding for this new endeavor. We have 400,000 John and Romans ready to go. We hope to have the ministry in action within weeks.
The plan is simple. The workers will be trained and then sent to the schools to deliver the Bibles. Inside the Bible will be a "lesson plan" that includes the plan of salvation. The worker will lead the students through the plan and then give each student an opportunity to receive Jesus as their personal Saviour. The lessons will be collected and checked as to who understood the plan and received Jesus. We can also pass this info to good churches in the area. The students will then be directed to a website where they can earn a certificate of completion for reading the Bible they were given. Your prayers are needed!
* Crossroads Baptist Academy Crossroads Baptist Academy opened its doors with 27 students. These students are all the children or grandchildren of people in our church. We are excited about training these young people to serve the Lord.
As always, I want to express my gratitude for your prayers and support. We are starting to make plans for the 6 year anniversary on August 29. Bro. Dave Douglass and Bro. Darrell Bolton will be our special guests this year. Our theme is "Knowing God, Loving Others, Serving Mankind."
It's been nearly 3 years since we have been in America. We sure do miss you all. But we are happy here serving the Lord in the Philippines. Thank you for everything!
